Deutsche Telekom AG, a phone company, plans to offer cloud-based applications for SME, in a move that brings the company into competition with SAP AG.
The operator will start the Business Marketplace platform with so-called cloud computing applications for internet-based customer-relationship management and accounting software.
The potential market is EUR10.7bn for Germany, where only 12% of smaller businesses use cloud functions.
Deutsche Telekom currently has cloud-computing sales of about EUR500m, of which about EUR140m comes from SMEs.
The software will target clients that don’t need the complexity that SAP systems offer.
