ChairsThe difference between a successful shared service center and a poorly executed shared service operation is generally down to the quality of leadership

When moving, consolidating and standardizing processes which are essential to the business, there are often difficult decisions involved. In any significant change program, people will need to adjust to new ways of working and often it involves reduction in headcount or redeployment within the business. Executing these changes and driving continuous improvement requires a strong leader with great knowledge of the processes involved and the people-skills needed to get things done.

At sharedserviceslink.com we spend a lot of time speaking to senior shared services professionals at our events and to build the content on our site. We’ve learned a lot about the challenges that shared services leaders face at all levels of maturity. That’s why we were particularly keen to work with our colleague, Deborah Kops who runs Sourcing Change, a change management consultancy for shared services and outsourcing. Deborah works with senior shared services professionals on a daily basis and is an expert on the issues facing shared services professionals and shared services leaders.

We are currently working together to conduct a survey for leaders in shared services, and we invite Managers of Shared Service Centers and above to take part in this survey.

The goal is to shed light on the distinct paths to leadership in shared services. We want to learn more about how shared service professionals have moved up the ranks in their shared services organizations. We hope to shed some insight on how career paths are shaped by the size and industry of the business, and what the expectations are of the different types of shared services leaders.

If you are a leader in shared services, please take a few minutes to help us with this survey.
