Finance Shared Services Collaboration Within UK Local Government Steps Forward
There is often a lot of talk about councils joining forces and sharing finance services amongst them. But then discussions hit a wall as local councils start debating where the centre should be located, and this of course has an impact on jobs. Dialogues between county councils are particularly emotional when it comes to location. However senior management at Cheshire's new unitary councils have signed an agreement that will pave the way for the sharing of services.
Cheshire Shared Services will deliver more than 30 services including finance to both Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils, reducing costs and improving efficiency for both authorities.
"The breadth of the services and the scale of the budgets to be provided through Cheshire Shared Services will make this one of the leading shared service arrangements in the country said Leader of Cheshire East Council Wesley Fitzgerald. "Cheshire Shared Services will also help to achieve Cheshire East Council’s savings and efficiencies target of £35 million over the next three years.”
