Michelin Axes 200 Jobs in Manchester (UK) Shared Services Centre
Michelin UK has closed its Manchester shared services operation with the loss of 200 jobs. The French tyre manufacturer has outsourced its European financial shared service centre to ACS.
Michelin has confirmed 150 people have been made redundant with a further 40 taking other jobs within the group outside of Manchester. The operation in Manchester handled credit control, accounting services and invoices for 12 European countries since its arrival in 2003.
According to Manchester Investment Agency, there are 30 shared services centres in Greater Manchester accounting for 5,000 jobs, including Exxon Mobil and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
But as one door closes another opens in the fluid, ever changing landscape that is shared services as ITV announced in May 2008 it is opening an SSC in Manchester, creating 100 finance jobs and J Sainsbury is also creating 250 jobs with a shared human resources service centre in the city.
