Basware, a provider of AP automation and invoice processing solutions, has named Markus Hornburg as its new Senior Vice President, Global Compliance. The appointment aims to bolster the company's compliance capabilities and assist clients in adapting to upcoming e-invoicing regulations.

Many nations, including France, Poland, Spain, and Germany, are enforcing legislation to mandate e-invoicing, while others, such as Latin American countries, are revising existing requirements. This regulatory landscape necessitates businesses operating in these regions to transition to electronic invoicing to combat issues like VAT fraud.

Navigating the intricate web of invoice formats, systems, tax regulations, and deadlines across different countries poses a significant challenge. Basware specializes in helping multinational enterprises automate their accounts payable (AP) processes by seamlessly managing, authorizing, and processing invoices at scale. In his role, Hornburg will spearhead Basware's strategy to address this increasingly complex compliance landscape by integrating diverse regulatory requirements into its AP automation and e-invoicing platform.

Hornburg brings over 25 years of experience in product, trade, and tax compliance, having collaborated with governments and private sector entities worldwide to drive digitalization initiatives. Prior to joining Basware, he held positions such as VP of Global Product Compliance at Coupa Software and VP of Compliance at Tungsten Network.

Markus Hornburg says, "I’m excited to join Basware to continue advancing compliance in financial processes. Basware has a proven track record of delivering substantial value to customers amidst evolving market dynamics. With numerous intricate e-invoicing regulations expected in the coming years, Basware solidifies its position as a trusted partner for businesses worldwide, supporting finance teams and CFOs in their digital transformation journey."

Basware provides support for e-invoice compliance across more than 100 countries, leveraging its extensive experience with mandates, regulations, and laws tailored to each market through its Global E-invoicing Compliance Map. The company's solution is already integrated with several government platforms and interoperability networks like Peppol, facilitating the cross-border exchange of electronic business documents.

Based in Germany, Hornburg will report directly to Basware's CEO, Jason Kurtz.

Jason Kurtz, CEO at Basware, commented, "Basware remains committed to assisting its customers through e-invoicing mandates. Markus's appointment underscores our dedication to being the preferred choice for global compliance. Compliance is a key concern for our customers, and Markus will play a vital role in ensuring comprehensive coverage of financial processes as they navigate varying mandates worldwide."
