North Macedonia Warns to Use Only Official E-Invoice Software

North Macedonia's Public Revenue Office (PRO) has warned businesses participating in the country's e-invoicing pilot to use only official software, documentation and technical guidance as testing of the national platform continues. The announcement follows the appearance of unofficial Chrome browser extensions claiming to support the electronic signing of e-invoices. The PRO confirmed that these extensions were not developed by the project's official contractor and should not be used.
Companies currently onboarding to the system have been instructed to obtain all implementation guidance, downloads and browser extensions exclusively from the official e-Invoice wiki and to direct technical questions through the project's designated support channels.
The notice highlights several practical considerations for businesses preparing for the mandate:
- Verify that browser extensions and software components have been downloaded from official PRO sources
- Use only the documentation and implementation guidance published on the official e-Invoice wiki
- Avoid third-party tools that could introduce security, compatibility or support issues
- Confirm technical components before deployment to reduce the risk of failed submissions or invalid electronic signatures
The announcement also reflects the current stage of North Macedonia's e-invoicing programme. As the country progresses through live testing, the focus is expanding beyond legislation and technical specifications to include the security and integrity of the software ecosystem supporting the mandate. Earlier this year, the PRO also advised businesses to rely exclusively on official guidance and training during the pilot phase, reinforcing its role as the single authoritative source for implementation information.
